How common are brain injuries?

Traumatic brain injuries are more common than many people realize.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 1.7 million people each year sustain a traumatic brain injury, with 52,000 dying of their injury, 275,000 being hospitalized, and 1.365 million being treated in an emergency room and released. In addition to these annual injuries, an unknown number of people suffer brain injuries but do not receive medical care.

Traumatic brain injury is a contributing factor to about one-third of all deaths from injuries in the United States. About 75 percent of the traumatic brain injuries sustained annually are concussions or other injuries that are classified as mild. Despite this classification, these injuries can be serious.

If you or a loved one suffered a brain injury as a result of another’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. Contact Joyce & Reyes for a free consultation.
